What are QR codes?
QR stands for quick response. QR codes became popular in public society because of their quick readability. QR codes are matrix-based codes with square dots arranged in a larger square plane with a white background. QR codes can hold an immense amount of information for their size. They can link mobile systems to texts, URLs, and any other written information.

Who invented the QR code?
The QR code was invented by Toyota. The codes were invented to track cars and are very popular because of the speed at which the codes can be translated.

What are the different uses for QR codes?
QR codes were originally invented to be used to track cars. Today, however, QR codes are becoming popular in public places. These QR codes are used for linking URLs, spreading texts, phone numbers, and other information. QR codes are becoming more popular than barcodes because QR codes can be read with any camera connected to a processor with the ability to translate the code.

This is an example of a QR code. This is just a test code that translates into a text file.

Project 16: Wireless Security Encryptions

What is...
WEP- Stands for Wireless Equivalent Privacy. WEP is an encryption standard that is the basic security for novice router operators. WEP is limited in the amount of characters it may use as a password.
WPA- Stands for Wi-Fi  Protected Access. WPA is an upgrade from WEP. WPA encryption is not limited to certain types or quantities of characters in the password. This makes WPA a stronger defense than WEP.
WPA2- Stands for Wi-Fi Protected Access II. WPA2 is a upgrade from WPA. WPA2 has an upgraded encryption system which introduces AES encryption.
TKIP- Stands for Temporal Key Integrity Protocol. TKIP is an upgrade from the encryption protocol used by WEP. TKIP implements three new encryption features: 1. TKIP introduces a key-mixing function, 2. Implements a replay counter that stops packets if they are sent out of order, 3. TKIP gives each new packet a unique encryption key.
AES- Stands for Advanced Encryption Standard. AES is the most recent and most secure encryption. AES uses a symmetric-key algorithm. This means that one key is used for both encryption and decryption.
AES is the most recent encryption standard, as well as the most secure. This is because the AES algorithm is based on substitutions and permutations. The algorithm substitutes some units with others and also rearranges the units.

Project 15: Setting Up a Wireless Router

To setup a wireless router you need to plug in the two ethernet cables and the power adapter. After that, I logged onto the router's ip address, which is 192.168.10.1. From there, I changed the SSID of the router and then added a password. To check if the router worked I had all of the computers connect.

Project 12: SketchUp Router

This router is similar to the router I have at home. At home I have a Cisco E5000 router made for gaming and HD streaming.

Project 11: Wireless Routers

1. What are wireless routers?
        Wireless routers are is a device that enables more than one computer connect to the internet via wireless signals or a wired connection. They're called "routers" because they route internet connections back and forth between computers and the connected modem.

2. What are the different wireless standards? How are they different?
         There are four wireless standards used: PAN, LAN, MAN, and WAN. Each are different types of standards characterized mainly by their signal range, speed, and function.
          PAN (Personal Area Network): PAN is a short ranged wireless standard used for connecting devices directly via peer-to-peer. PAN includes Bluetooth connectivity. Range is usually within a few meters. Speed is usually less than 1Mbps.
         LAN (Local Area Network): LAN is a standard used for keeping devices connected to a network within a medium range. LAN is the basic service standard because LAN and WLAN are most commonly referred to for connecting devices to the internet via router and modem. Speed varies between 11 and 54 Mbps.
          MAN (Metropolitan Area Network): MAN is a medium to long range standard that eliminates cords and fixed modems by utilizing broadband internet service. A fixed or accessory antenna that is connected to a computer sends and receives signals from service provider towers. MAN services are commonly available to consumers subscribed to service providers like telecommunication companies. Speeds vary around the 100 Mbps mark.
         WAN (Wide Area Network): WAN is a long range standard most commonly used by mobile devices like cell phones or wireless hotspot routers. WAN is the standard for 3G, EDGE, and cellular device networks. Speeds are faster than 10 Kbps.

Project

 This is a list of parts needed to put together a gaming optimized PC. The list includes each part, its use, if it's needed, and its price. This PC is optimized for gaming, so it is made for speed, especially during intense graphics use. The PC is very fast but also very expensive. This PC costs about $4,600.
